This is a good day to be a pantser, because good writing comes out of the blue, without a lot of rational thought. If you just go ahead and write, without a lot of forethought you may surprise yourself with the quality of your material today. Your ambition is increasing as Mars, Moon and Venus move into forceful Aries, but still, let the imagination lead you where it wants to go. A grand trine just before midnight marries desire, fun, and hard work. You won’t know where one ends and the other begins. The perfect writing state!

The Moon in Pisces just wants peace this morning. You may sleep in. Fiction writers, especially fantasy writers, are in their element. The dreamy, imaginative water sign of Pisces has a stellium of planets in it until supper time. Then Mars moves into Aries and our ambition comes back full force… or at least it WANTS to come back. The Pisces planets are still holding sway over us, as if there’s a magic fairy dust trying to put us to sleep. It may be wise to allow our fantasies full rein today, instead of fighting the inevitable.

We can feel where we’re going emotionally, but the details may be lagging behind. As the New Moon approaches the Sun in the last degree of Aquarius, we reach a moment of yin/yang balance. This is a pinnacle moment in our writing where we’re poised between everything we did before, and the new direction we are about to take. Venus and Mars are also conjunct in late Pisces giving a universal profundity to everything we write, as if the words are being delivered to us right out of the collective unconscious. There will be wisdom in whatever you write tonight, but it may not be conventional wisdom. It’s something altogether different and new.

A variety of desires throws us off of our commitment to writing before noon, but after lunch, everything changes. We reconnect with our sense of language, we focus on dramatic expression, and we welcome exciting new directions. We can really get down to work and polish that material this evening. Picture a bespectacled writer, quill in hand, nose down to the parchment, as the candle shrinks far into the night. That’s you this evening. And it’ll even be fun!

The desire to get some work done is at odds with the need to dream early this morning. Beautiful dreaming wins out after breakfast, which is great for fantasy writers. After lunch, ideas are arising out of nowhere, surprisingly useful, and coming fast and furious. Tonight would be a great time to read or go to a writer’s meeting to recharge your batteries. Moon conjunct Mercury in Aquarius quintile Lilith in Virgo says listen to what women have to say tonight. You might get some great material.

As the Moon in Capricorn approaches the Pluto/Ceres conjunction, the individual story meets the universal story. This is the day to think about the theme of your writing. How does a transformation in your character’s outer world, affect her inner world? A yod pointing to Jupiter in Leo puts the focus on your character’s ego, their sense of self, and how they express that to others. How does their personality reflect and interact with their society? Does their individual nature say something about their milieu, and vice versa?

We’re feeling expansive, but slightly muddled this morning. New ideas can have us going off at a tangent. Around dinner time, the Moon moves into Capricorn and we can start to shape all those new ideas into something concrete. Semi-sextiles to Mercury and Saturn can see us building some solid work by allowing us to focus on what’s right in front of us rather than going after new material. Despite being Valentine’s Day, it’s a good evening for editing. Underlying all this, a nice quintile between Venus in Pisces and Jupiter in Leo will allow romance to blossom. Today could be a series of epiphanies about why you write. It will be less about making a grand statement or exposing hidden truths, and more about just having a simple human connection with the reader. It will be more about the heart, and less about the head. There will be a feeling of freedom in these realizations that ignites your passion and opens up channels of inspiration. It will also feel easier to write. You don’t need to sweat bullets thinking too much; you just need to follow your feelings.
